October Salem School News

Smile!

Tuesday, October 1st should be on your calendar for Picture Day! You will not order before the photographer is here, as usual, but after the picture choices are sent to you via email. This will be a nice change since you will see the picture before you decide what to order. There will still be a retake opportunity on November 5th. Preschool students who are not scheduled for that day may come to the church entrance between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to get their picture taken.

5-8 Grade Parent/Teacher Conferences

Early October is when our middle school teachers will meet with parents to ensure our students are on track and off to a good start! Our middle school teachers will be available for fall conferences on Tuesday, October 1, Thursday, October 3, and Monday, October 7.

Please sign up for a time slot now if you haven’t already done so.

Reformation Games at Salem

Every year our students learn the rich history of the Reformation. On October 31, the students at Salem will celebrate the Reformation by learning about Martin Luther. They learn about his life and work through various activities run by different teachers. The students will be grouped into their PreK-8th grade groups and learn about Luther almost being struck by lightning, the Luther Seal, the selling of indulgences, the 95 Theses, and Luther translating the Bible into the spoken language.

November 1 – No School

Our teachers will observe an in-service day to review their lessons for Amplify and receive more training. School will resume on November 4th.

Sports Update

Fall sports are underway. Both disc golf teams took 2nd in their first match of the season. Cross Country was heading to their first meet as of writing this paragraph. Volleyball continues to play well together and is doing exceptionally well, considering there are only five girls on the team. We are thankful for all of the coaches and the parents for their support during these seasons.

Referral Program

The school board approved a program that gave an incentive to recruit new families for our school. If a family with children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they referred. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

Prayer

One way we forget we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings in our school and church year.
