Enrollment for 2023-2024
New families may begin enrolling on February 1st. We are encouraged by re-enrollments coming in every day for the 2023-2024 school year. We hope to have a good picture of class sizes for next year by March 1. Please continue to get your re-enrollments completed so we can confirm the acceptance of new families as those enrollments come in.
Preschool registration fees are $100 for the early bird until March 1st, then the fee is $175. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. You have the choice of which days you would like your child to come. There’s a minimum attendance of 3 half days up to 5 full days.
The K-8 registration fee is $175 before March 1st and $275 after. We ask families that are interested in tuition assistance to please fill out a TADS Financial Aid application. The church has given us $250,000 in grant money to award to our families. You must apply by March 1 to be eligible to receive an award.
Please encourage any families interested in our school to contact either Mr. Klatt (rklatt@salemlutheran.org) for K-8 students or Mrs. Grobe (jgrobe@salemlutheran.org) for preschool students. Families interested in our school are also encouraged to sign up for a tour on our website!
Staffing Changes for 2023-2024
With Mrs. Hasselquist accepting her call to teach preschool in Osceola, Salem’s staffing for next school year is going to look a little different. The plan is to move Mr. Stob to 4th grade and call for a 3rd grade teacher in early February. We have asked for Mrs. Jessica Wolfe, Pastor Ryan Wolfe’s wife, to be on this call list to serve at Salem. We look forward to seeing the plans God has for us as he continues to bless Salem and our endeavors to share God’s Word and educate the next generation.
Principal Call
On January 22nd, Mr. Klatt received a Divine Call to serve as Principal and 6th-8th grade teacher in Simpsonville, South Carolina, at Abiding Peace Academy. Simpsonville is a suburb of Ashville and the school has 65 students in preschool and 70 in K-7. Please keep Principal Klatt in your prayers as he deliberates where best to serve God in his kingdom.
Map Testing
Winter MAP testing has come and gone with the month of January. Students took tests in Math, Reading, and Language for the second time this year. The goal of the MAP testing is to see growth in the students throughout the school year and from one year to the next. The faculty will also be having professional development on how best to utilize the data given to us through MAP testing.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Thank you to those parents who came to Parent Teacher conferences. It is always a blessing to share the successes of the students and areas where we can partner to better assist the students with their learning. We look forward to continuing to work with all of our families as we continue to spread God’s Word and educate the next generation of children.
1st Semester Chapel Offerings
We collected $1, 620.08 in our chapel offerings during the first semester of school. We are so excited to send this collection to WELS World Missions where it will support our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in the Ukrainian Lutheran Church. Thank you to all who made this contribution possible. Please continue to pray for this Ukrainian ministry. Our second-semester chapel offerings will go towards Truth in Love Ministry.
Power Up
Salem is participating in Power Up with materials provided by Lakeview Hospital. Some information was sent home with the children and the last week of January was spent encouraging healthy eating and exercising. It’s been a great way we can work with our local hospital to help promote a healthy lifestyle. At the start of February, we will also be doing the Try for Five challenge from Power-Up. This is a program that encourages students to try five vegetables a day. The school receives money for having the students participate and it helps the students to try new foods and have healthier diets.
Spirit Week
From Feb. 13th-Feb 16th, Salem will be having our annual Spirit Week/Winterfest. This is the week when students have dress-up days and different winter activities at various times throughout the week. This all culminates in a Pep Rally where we celebrate Salem school spirit on Thursday. We are excited to have this again and for the students to show their Salem pride! On Friday, some of our students will participate in the A team boy’s and girl’s basketball tournaments which will be held at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN through the weekend.
No School February 17 – 20
There will be no school on Friday, Feb. 17 for a faculty in-service. There is no school also on Monday, Feb. 20 for Presidents Day.
Coming Soon! Education Night – Biblical Living History March 3
Mark your calendars! On March 3rd, Salem will be having its annual Education Night. This night is a time when we focus on one of the subjects we teach at Salem and invite families into the school to projects and activities the students have done. This year the theme is Biblical Living History. The classrooms will have activities, projects, and students dressed up like Bible Characters based on the theme of the classroom. Some themes include the miracles of Jesus, the 10 Plagues, Judges, and more… Please make plans to attend this awesome event at Salem on March 3rd!

Referral Program
The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive to recruit new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

We Are Also Collecting Aluminum Cans and Pop Tabs
Aluminum cans benefit our athletic program and can be bagged up and placed in the wooden bin that is next to the garage facing Panama Ave. Mrs. Hasselquist and her class support The Ronald McDonald House by participating in the Pop Tab program. She has done this for over 16 years and they have collected over 200 lbs of pop tabs. The cash received goes directly to support Ronald McDonald House. They can be brought to the bin at the entrance to school or to her classroom.

Prayer
One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings in our school and church year.
