School Year Theme – Message from Principal Klatt
Everything is going smoothly. The car is packed. The kids are all downstairs ready to go. Everyone is ready for the long car ride to visit family. You get into the car right when you were planning. However, after traveling for half an hour on the highway, you get a flat tire. Immediately, the kids start fighting, you have to unpack the trunk to get to the spare tire, and the perfect plan for this trip has gone out the window.
If you are like me, you like to have your day planned. I like to know what is happening and when it is supposed to happen. If you are also like me, you know that the plan typically changes as the day progresses. Unforeseen events keep popping up and it seems like you will never have that day where everything goes to plan.
It is in these moments where we want control, that we have to look to the one who has control. God has his own plans for our lives that never change or go awry. Are they always the plans we have for ourselves? No, they are not, but we know what God promises about his plans in the Bible. They will give us “hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11) and “God works for the good of those who love him.” (Romans 8:28).
At Salem, we teach our students about God’s plans. How his plan for our life was to send his only Son to die for our sins. How his main goal for our life is for us to be with him forever in Heaven. The students are also taught that sometimes our plans and God’s plans don’t line up. Our plans can be self-serving or might cause us pain. God sees all of the possibilities for our lives and thankfully makes plans that are best for us.
The next time your plans go awry remember that we have a loving Heavenly Father in control. We don’t have to worry that our plan didn’t go exactly to plan, because we know God’s plan has and always will be successful.

Grandparents Day
Our students are being asked to invite their grandparents or a special guest to school on September 30th. We are planning a special worship service and activities in the classrooms that morning for our special guests. Please note lunch will not be served that day and school ends at noon. There also will be no aftercare available that day. Please watch for more information to be shared soon!
Sunday Jam
Our Sunday JAM planning team is excited for a new program to help kids grow in faith and see their Savior. When the fall schedule resumes kids ages 3 to 6th grade are invited to Sunday JAM (Jesus and Me) every week. The year begins with the theme “Roanoke Jones” with children following the clues through some of the Bible’s greatest detective stories. Each week kids will grow in Jesus as they watch videos, sing, read, and do art projects. Sunday JAM will begin each week in the church sanctuary and end with snacks in the gym. You can help us out by pre-registering your children at www.salemlutheran.org/JAM. Sunday JAM is open to nonmembers as well so invite your friends and neighbors to join us!
Fall MAP Testing
Our school MAP Testing for the Fall Session is coming up on September 26th-30th. Please make sure your students have a healthy wholesome breakfast, and are getting a good night sleep to start them on the right foot as testing week can be draining on their bodies.
TADS Fee Charges this Year
The late fees that are automatically applied to families who do not make payment within the 5-day grace period will be $50 this year. Referral Program
The School Board approved a program that gives an incentive to recruit new families for our school. If a family who has children enrolled refers a new family to Salem, they will receive a $200 tuition credit at Christmas per family they have referred. A church family who refers a new family will receive a $200 script gift card also at Christmas per family if they so choose. There is no limit to the number of families you can refer. If you have any more questions about the program, speak to a School Board member or Mr. Klatt.

Prayer
One way we usually forget about how we can help our school and church is to pray for them throughout the year. Your prayers are always a blessing and it is great to know that you are asking God for his blessings in our school and church year.
