Youth Ministry at Salem Lutheran Church
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12).”
At Salem, our Youth Ministry is designed to equip young men, women, and their families for a lifetime of joyful service to Christ. As your Associate Pastor, I am partnering with lay leaders Ross and Rachel Collins, Pastor Wolfe, and you to nurture spiritual growth for both our church and our school. Based off of our church’s mission, here are our hopes for the years ahead:
Our Hopes and Vision
-
Salem’s pastors and leaders actively deepen faith through instruction and fellowship.
They teach an orderly catechism program for both Lutheran Elementary School students and non-LES youth. Catechism a summary of the key truths of the Bible passed on from the time of the Reformation so that all ages can understand what the Bible says and teaches. Every student who completes catechism receives an invitation to attend the WELS International Youth Rally, held biennially each summer.
-
Salem builds community and creates opportunities for growth.
Youth Group hosts regular gatherings, family activities, Pioneer-style service projects, and fun events. Leaders also develop college-ministry connections so that young men and women thrive in the Spirit who gives power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7).
-
Salem encourages family and gender-specific ministry.
Pastors and lay leaders empower young men and women to embrace the roles God gave them at creation while celebrating the blessings of being brothers and sisters in Christ. By strengthening families as the foundation of society, Salem echoes the ancient Christian church that made the home its first church. Leaders equip men and women to flourish as faithful husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters.
-
Salem partners for outreach and adventure.
Youth leaders collaborate with Camp Croix for retreats and spiritual growth, coordinate school-based evangelism events such as Vacation Bible School and Christmas for Kids, and connect with sister WELS congregations for mission trips. Salem intentionally offers paths for youth to explore and engage the world so their light shines in the darkness (Ephesians 5:8-10).
